Ballito’s karting speedster Benjamin Habig still the fastest
Heat one was really tight racing but Habig took the lead winning by a small margin, with another local lad Dominic Lincoln in third.
Racing in the sweltering heat, Ballito karting speedster Benjamin Habig took the lead again at the second round of the Rotax SARMC KZN Regionals at Idube Raceway, Camperdown last weekend.
The first round last month saw Habig facing an unexpected challenge due to a cracked chassis, but luckily a newly prepared TonyKart rail arrived in SA last week, just in time for the race.
“We were able to get some laps in and do some work on the set up on Saturday, and I feel we needed a few more laps to have it perfect, but we ran out of time,” said Benjamin.

Heat one was really tight racing but Habig took the lead winning by a small margin, with another local lad Dominic Lincoln in third.
Habig continued his winning streak by taking the second heat from flag to flag, and fended off the competition in the final heat of the day to make it a first overall, pipping Roman de Beer, and Robert Whiting a fellow TUKS student finished in third.
“It is going to be a very competitive season, and the second Rotax SARMC National will be held in Port Elizabeth next weekend.
“The level of competition in Cape Town in this DD2 class was at another level, and I was fortunate to finish second overall for the day,” Habig added.
“Hopefully we can bag some valuable championship points next week for the 2019 SA Title.”
With six competitive classes ranging in Micro Max, Junior Max, Senior Max, Max 175 and the DD2 and DD2 Masters racing and full grids, Habig was also awarded ‘Driver of the Day’.
