Ballito surfer clinches podium place at SA Champs

Sophie Bell's combined wave score of 7.66 secured her third place.

Ballito’s star surfer, Sophie Bell took third place in the SA women’s open event at the 54th annual Mercedes-Benz South African Surfing Championship hosted by Buffalo City at Nahoon Reef last Sunday.

Bell’s combined wave score of 7.66 secured her a podium position while Buffalo City’s surf rider Zoe Steyn beat her closest challenger, former eight-time SA champion Heather Clark, of Ugu Surfriders, in the final.

Steyn became the youngest-ever South African to win the women’s open title at 15 years old.
