Local junior anglers Chais Gaul (grade 11 at Ashton College) and Jan du Plessis (grade 10 at Glenwood Boys High) from Zinkwazi recently represented the SA U19 Deep Sea Angling team at the nationals competition held in Durban from August 11 to 16.
This year’s competition was a bumper event with 16 teams competing for top places. The SA U19 team was the only junior team that participated in the tournament and secured sixth place.
Earlier this year Chais captained the KZN junior team at the All Coastal Bottom Fish Inter Provincial competition in Port Elizabeth, bagging silver.
Meanwhile Chais and Jan (captain), represented the KZN U19 team at the Junior Bottom fish Nationals hosted in East London in June. The team walked away with second place.
Jan was also part of the SA U19 team at the Game Fish Nationals in St Lucia earlier this year.
