Ballito’s Habig clinches SA championship title
DD2 is the premier class in karting and extremely competitive, and has this year been a firm favourite among the spectators throughout the country.
In what can be described as his best season in his karting career, Benjamin Habig clinched the 2019 SA Rotax Max DD2 SA Championship title at Zwartkops Karting Circuit in the final national of the year.
The Ballito racer won two of the four nationals with five full scores, three second places and two third places.
Going into the finals he had a comfortable lead, and clinching third overall in the first of four heats, the championship title was his with three heats in hand.

“It has been a great season for me – we set goals at the beginning of the year, and we always kept the bigger picture in mind. Obviously winning the SA title is the culmination of a season’s racing. Not only is it the highlight of the year, but also winning the DD2 seat at the Rotax Max World Grand Finals to be held at Sarno, Italy as a member of the SA Team is the cherry on top,” said an elated Habig.

“Even though this is my first SA National Title, I have been a member of the SA Team five times, but I feel this year I am more prepared as we have concentrated more on the karting this year and I withdrew from the Polo Cup Circuit Races this year,’ said Habig, a third year University of Pretoria student.
Habig currently leads the KZN DD2 Championship, and this coming weekend the action will be at the Idube International Raceway for Round 7 of the 2019 KZN Regional Championship.
