A number of local trail runners spent the weekend soaking up the spectacular scenery of the southern Drakensberg on the Glencairn sheep farm, near the base of the Sani Pass which played host to the two-day Glencairn trail event on 12 and 13 October.
The fun and challenging weekend of camping and running offers two events catering for different abilities.
The “Ram Run” is the longer distance event which consists of a 21 kilometre stage on the Saturday and an 18 kilometre on the Sunday, while the “Lamb Run” route takes runners over a 12km course on the first day and 8km on the second day.
Both distances provided a unique mix of terrain with a couple of technical sections that take runners past dairy pastures and up alongside the Drakensberg Mountains.

Children as young as eight finished the Lamb Run, and families camping together had some family members running and others enjoying the farm while waiting for the runners to finish.
The Glencairn Trail Run was established in 2016 with 125 runners taking part, and it has grown into one of the most popular trail running stage races in KZN with 750 runners this year enjoying a fully catered weekend camping on the farm.
Glencairn Farm is the home of the Sani2c mountain bike stage race that takes place in May each year, and with the race village on the farm catering for 4200 riders over five days of Sani2c, the farm has developed infrastructure such as a huge shed for dining, a comfortable chill zone and permanent toilets and hot showers.
With the afternoons spent relaxing on the farm or enjoying yoga, and evening entertainment provided on the Saturday, the event attracts young and old making it a great weekend for the family.
