Brett brings it home to Ballito

Brett Swanepoel and Max Maidman showed immense heart at the 2019 Snow & Rock Enduro event hosted by Afriski Mountain Resort, with Brett finishing first overall on Day 2 and Max proving his fitness levels were still youthful with an eighth overall completion on Day 2 as well.

The gruelling off-road race tested the grit, courage and navigational skills of both riders under pressure at high altitudes and while the warm weather set aside any chances of snow, the rocky terrain was still a challenging adversary.

Recovering from a severe wrist injury, Brett threw pain to the wind and victory was his reward – a spectacular performance and a remarkable comeback.

Local rider Dylan Jones, aged only 16, also completed the event and finished a brilliant third overall on Day 2.

He will be one of youngest contestants entering the Motul Roof of Africa enduro event alongside Swanepoel and Maidman, and all three will be taking a well deserved rest before gearing up again for the popular international event.

Francois Marais, one of the founders of the event and owner of Wild West Enduro Track, said he was very happy with how the event had gone.

“The feedback from the riders was overwhelmingly supportive and many were asking for the 2020 Snow & Rock dates to add the event to their annual riding calendar,” said Marais.

Swanepoel, Maidman and Jones will be flying the flag high for Ballito from 4 to 7 December at the Motul Roof of Africa in Lesotho, and we wish them the best of luck and safe return home!
