Fishing fun at Hazelmere

The winner of the largest bass, Tjaart Fourie, reeled in an impressive 42,5cm specimen at The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund Family Fishing Fun Day at Hazelmere Dam last Saturday.

While the modest fisherman claims that fish of that size are regularly pulled from the dam it was streaks ahead of the catches of the day, with its closest competitor a healthy 34cm.

Fourie was thrilled with his prize of a fishing charter sponsored by Lynski Fishing Charters valued at R7 500.

Junior angler of the day was Jordan Heys with his 28cm bass, bagging him a nifty new rod and reel combo.

But the highlight of the competition was the announcement of the selfie competition, the winner of which would take home a brand new kickboat valued at R5 500, sponsored by Farmer Kickboats.

The three best selfies were placed in a draw and Jordche Frances (14) was pulled from the hat, to great excitement from the crowd.

The morning of fishing started with the sun and saw about 30 fishermen and women casting their lines.

Orphan Fund fundraising coordinator Jane Armstrong thanked everyone who took part and said there were amazing prizes won and many laughs shared.
