Heat won’t stop over 40s from playing the good game
Recently promoted third couple Andy Horton and Grant Coppin must have been affected by the heat, as they were thrashed by the third couple and yet managed to beat the first couple.
The heat wave on the weekend provided very uncomfortable conditions for the men’s over 40s league match.
Our first team travelled to Brighton tennis club to face a boosted Brighton team.
The match was won comfortably by Umhlali, but this was not without controversy.
Apparently Graeme Martin threw a game to repay his partner Phil Thornhill’s previous weeks antics! This made for an even more uncomfortable trip home in silence.

The third team hosted a very strong Midlands side looking for retribution after dropping a section.
The noisy Craig Bekker and Adrean Hultzer were the on form couple of the day.
The combination of Adrean’s fanatic supporters and Craig’s mid-point chirps proved difficult for the opposition.
The match ended in a thrilling decider with Roy Travers and John Donachie throwing ever thing they had – including an underarm serve which is frowned upon. Unfortunately we narrowly lost 58-59 in an epic battle.
Matt Coppin and J P Pienaar ran a hot social tennis this Saturday with four courts in play. The duo’s efficient organising made sure the sets ran smoothly without complaints!
