Seeff MTB lap series a spinning success
Recording more than 600 rider entries, the series was well supported by the local cycling community and also attracted participants from the greater Durban region.
Sweltering temperatures and humidity did not dampen the enthusiasm of the young cyclists who came out to compete in the third and final leg of the Seeff Schools MTB Lap Series hosted at Seaton Estate on Sunday, March 15.
In collaboration with Sugar Rats Club, Elite Eventures and Seeff North Coast the MTB lap series was targeted specifically at primary school pupils from grade one to seven, who are showing a keen interest in MTB,
Recording more than 600 rider entries, the series was well supported by the local cycling community and also attracted participants from the greater Durban region.
Hosted at three different venues during the months of February and March, the aim of the series is to support the growth and development of cycling at primary school level by augmenting the sponsorship needed to develop grassroots mountain biking in the region.
The first event of the series was hosted at Umhlali Preparatory, with more than 200 young participating riders.
Ashton College played host to the second leg of the series with both beginner and experienced riders taking part in the event.
Seaton Estate provided the scenic back drop to the final leg of the series.
“Mountain biking enables children to explore the outdoors, connect with nature, spend time with friends and family, and develop confidence and physical literacy. It is also a great way to meet and connect with other families who cycle,” said Tim Johnson from Seeff North Coast, one of the series sponsors.
