Linc Church’s Do The Distance walk sees R30 000 raised for Liv Village school

The North Coast community rallied to play its part in raising funds for the Do The Distance Walk, a 5km charity event hosted at Palm Lakes park run site on Saturday morning.

A field of 140 people took part (participants were staggered to ensure social distancing), raising funds for Liv Village School.

The event, organised by the Linc Foundation, the social upliftment arm of Linc Church, was part of the Love Week celebration, an initiative that is held annually during the week of Mandela Day.

In true Mandela spirit the Linc Foundation celebrated their Love Week with a number of simple acts that brought light and hope to those in need.

Linc Foundation director Cath Slevin said: “Our Love Week is all about giving back to the community and we try and do a week’s worth of simple-based community activities that we believe make a difference and what we call #BlessTheCity.

This year our programme was different – as a result of the pandemic large numbers of people were not able to get involved like they do every year.

Our week was focused specifically on the local schools.

With all the uncertainty that has been around we felt it would be great to do something for the children and teachers.

The charity walk raised R14 000 and we matched that amount rounding it to R30 000.”

The Love Week began with a blanket drive. Tuesday was ‘pack a pencil case’ for school pupils.

Wednesday’s theme was Readers are Leaders.

This will see AmaButho Primary School receive a library makeover.

Thursday’s aim was to supply as many schools as possible with calculators.

Friday’s fill a tummy initiative gave children a cereal pack, each consisting of 20 meals. Saturday concluded the final day of Love Week with the “Do the Distance Walk”.
