Near 100 golfers tee off for North Coast charity at open day

The 21st edition of the North Coast Open golf day was a resounding success despite the challenges that the coronavirus pandemic placed on the event.

A field of almost 100 golfers took part in the fundraiser at Umhlali Country Club which led to more than R18 000 being raised for The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund.

The fund supports more than local 13 organisations which care for orphaned or vulnerable children and the money raised has never been more important than in such a tumultuous year.

“Thank you to Malcolm Mann for again organising this day that was so enjoyed by both local and visiting golfers alike,” said Rose Stephenson, founder of the North Coast Courier Orphan Fund.

Warm temperatures and barely any wind meant that the course was there for the taking, leaving golfers needing to achieve high points totals to be victorious.

The team of James Haupt, Jill Bullock, Mark and Carol Chamberlain did just that racking up 94 points to take the spoils on the day.

“It was a great day out there in support of a good cause and we are really happy to come out on top,” said Mark.

Duval Dorfling, Aka Theocharopoulos, Greg Kruger and Johan Dorfling took second place, with Michel de Marigny, Derek Broughton, Ian Lambie and Mike Celine grabbing third.

Colin Lunsky won in the luck department and took home two boxes of wine in the charity raffle, just in time to beat the alcohol ban across the country.
