Maidstone Golf Club defend their shield against Eshowe
The shield tournament was started in 1933 and is one of the longest-running on the local golfing calendar.
Maidstone Golf Club successfully defended their North Coast Shield tournament trophy at the Eshowe Country Club for the 5th time in the last 7 years.
The 36 hole tournament was held on Sunday, March 14 and club PRO Dr Shalin Moodley said this was a big achievement because they are a small club and one of the least funded on the North Coast.
“Despite our size, dedication and commitment shown by our members are yielding positive results. Honestly, we did not believe we were going to defend our championship this year.”

Captain Alex Moonsamy said this year’s tournament was tougher than last year because all the clubs brought their best game.
“Last year we won the Interclub tournament that was held on the South Coast and we also won the iLembe Golf Federation tournament. We hope to attract more member into our club and to continue to win more championships,” said an elated Moonsamy.
