Youth Day cycling race through Ntshawini
At the academy children learn to ride and how to fix and care for their bicycles.
A dream to see cycling becoming a popular sport in the townships of KwaDukuza, is one step closer to become a reality for Shaka’s Head resident Goodman Manqele.
Through his academy, Gxoba Istibulo Academy for Cycling Development, Manqele will host a cycling race through the Ntshawini township on June 16.
The academy was started in Shaka’s Head with about 50 children, with a second branch now running in Ntshawini.
At the academy children learn to ride and how to fix and care for their bicycles.
“The aim is to take children off the street and encourage them to take part in different sports. I was also planning to take this programme to Mandeni but Covid-19 came and my plans were disrupted.”
The 45 km race for adults and 10km race for children will start at 8.30am from the Ntshawini sports ground and all cyclists are invited to take part.
