Tongaat karateka claims silver at KSA Elite Championships

Ria Govender will represent the Rainbow Nation Proteas in the Southern Africa Karate International Championships.

Hailed Tongaat’s superwoman, Ria Govender has been selected to represent the Rainbow Nation Proteas in the upcoming Southern Africa Karate International Championships.

A sports science student in her academic life, Ria narrowly missed gold this weekend past at the KSA Elite Championships to Western Cape karate fighter, Robin Poole, settling for silver.

Govender’s performance at the Tongaat Sports Centre was however good enough to secure her in the final selections to represent the Women of the Rainbow Nation at the championships in Gauteng come mid-December.

She is set to attend several coaching workshops in preparation of the championships, while under the watchful eye of Protea coach, Jabulo Khumalo.
