KwaDukuza Kings bag bronze at national champs

The KwaDukuza Kings faced off against the best club basketball teams in the country this past weekend, finishing in a respectable 3rd place.
It was always going to be an uphill battle for the Kings, struggling with sponsorship, proper practice facilities and team cohesion given their lack of combined playing time.
Still, the team put in consistently impressive performances to reach the national stage and will be back for the grand prize in the National Club Championships next year.
On Saturday, September 4, the team played against both eventual finalists, the Cape Town Tigers and Jozi Nuggets, losing 78 – 44 and 70 – 42 respectively.
They put in a strong final performance however, beating the Joby Knights 64 – 43 to take home 3rd place in the competition.

“We are really proud of the boys for getting this far and for finishing as one of the 3 best club teams in the country.
Thank you to the KwaDukuza municipality and Siza Water for their help,” said team chairman, Billy Khambule.

The focus of KwaDukuza now moves to the Queens who will be starting their club championships run with the interprovincial championships on October 10.
They will host a team from Pietermaritzburg and 2 teams from Mpumalanga in Howick, the winner of which will go on to the Women’s National Club Championships on October 24.
The KwaDukuza basketball teams are still in need of further sponsorship to solidify their positions as some of the best club teams in the country. Contact Khambule at 073 128 1045.
