Ballito equestrians jump for gold at Emmatt Eventing interprovincials

Two Ballito local equestrians brought back gold from the Emmatt Eventing Interprovincials in Shongweni last weekend.

Chad Hoggan (17) and Sabrina Bailey (16) both impressed the judges with their horses fancy footwork. 

Chad, a pupil at Ashton International College Ballito, competed in the Ev85 Junior and High School class, and after dressage and show jumping he had managed to secure his position in 1st.

After Sunday’s cross-country section, Chad held onto his overnight lead and placed 1st overall.

“My horse, Viceroy, never lets me down! Every time we are out in the country he shows me more and more of what we can achieve together,” said Chad.

“I cannot wait to see what awaits our partnership at the upcoming South African Junior Eventing Provincial Championships at the end of October at Mooi River,” he said.

Sabrina, who attends The Educational Studio, competed in the Ev75 class, and after dressage and show jumping she placed 2nd.

But following the cross-country section she managed to finish 1st in her class, overall.

“Liana and I recently started Eventing – and we have both found our mojo,” said an elated Sabrina.

“She’s a little horse with a bright future, and our recent win is a big push in the right direction. I am extremely excited about our future.”
