Manor Cricket Club takes home the trophy at Ricardo Mthembu memorial tournament
iLembe Cricket Union president, Desigan Pillay, said a partnership with sponsor KwaDukuza Municipality (KDM) was important to promote cricket.
KwaDukuza cricket teams brought their best form to the Ricardo Mthembu memorial 6-a-side tournament last weekend.
The tournament was held at the Gledhow sports field on Saturday in commemoration of the late mayor Ricardo Mthembu.
Manor Cricket Club took home bragging rights, winning the tournament after a thrilling final against Pak International.
Suveer Dwelal was bowler of the tournament after claiming 6 wickets.
Batsman and player of the tournament was Sashen Naidoo of Darnall Cricket Club who scored 103 runs and took 5 wickets.

“I want to thank KDM for their support. This opening tournament saw cricketers returning to the field after a long absence in commemoration of our leader, Ricardo Mthembu who was a huge supporter of sport.
“The challenges in cricket in KwaDukuza are indeed vast as we continue our appeal for the promised second venue for cricket after the loss of country club grounds to the KwaDukuza Mall.
“We are hoping that an announcement of the location of the second ground for cricket is going to be soon as we have 13 clubs, junior cricket, hub cricket, ladies cricket and two teams playing in KZN competitions and just one ground which is indeed a challenge for us,” said Pillay.
Teams also received cricket equipment from mayor Dolly Govender.
