Seals face off against Africa’s best scoring 29 gold medals
Despite the strong competition, the North Coast's talented team delivered fantastic results, with a total of 29 wins and 97 total podium finishes.
The Seals Swimming North Coast team, tired of winning local galas, have taken their talents further afield, albeit virtually.
Thirty-three swimmers from the Seals team took part in the Cana Zone IV Virtual Gala, held at King’s Park on October 30 and 31.
With the coronavirus pandemic ongoing, sports bodies have had to find inventive ways to keep competition high.
The young Seals raced simultaneously with swimmers from 12 African nations, as well as other age-group swimming clubs across South Africa.

This meant that the team were not only facing South Africa’s best talent, but also that from Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Eswatini, Madagascar, Mauritius, Namibia, Seychelles, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The team look forward to receiving their regional southern Africa Cana Zone IV Rankings soon.
Seals coach, Dominique Donner-Rodd, said that she was proud of her team and the way that they competed, even without being able to see the competition.
“It was our first long course (50m pool) gala of the year so we weren’t sure how everything was going to go. Needless to say, I am absolutely thrilled with the results! The kids have such a tremendous mindset, working together as a team and its really showing with their times,” she said.
