Shane Sykes and Sophie Bell are both through to the final day’s action of the South African Surfing Championships (SASC) after winning their final heats.

They now both face a quarterfinal at Willard Beach tomorrow, hoping to catapult themselves into their respective finals in the afternoon session.

Sykes surfed twice today, winning both heats against strong competition.

That makes 3 wins out of 3 in the heats so far and Sykes looks to be in good form going into the final day.

He faces off against Tide Ireland (eThekwini) and Max Elkington (Cape Town) in his quarterfinal at 9.24 am tomorrow.

The men’s semi-finals start at 10.48 am with the final at 12.06 am.

Sophie Bell has also had an unblemished record so far, winning both of her 2 heats in the SASC.

She beat out 3 surfers with a strong performance of 12.33 to take the victory in heat 5 of round 3 this afternoon.

Bell will be up against Ceara Knight (Cape Town) and Kira Hofmeyr (Cape Town) in her quarterfinal at 8.21 am.

The women’s semi-finals kick off at 10.06 am tomorrow with the final starting at 11.40 am.

Sykes and Bell are iLembe’s only 2 surfers left in the competition and they both have a chance to be crowned national champion.
