North Coast gutsy foursome take on double Midmar Challenge for charity
As part of the entry, the swimmers have to nominate a charity for which they will raise funds, and the group has picked the Chad le Clos Foundation.
Have you ever considered swimming the Midmar Mile and then decided, ‘That’s far too long to be possible!’.
Well, four of the North Coast’s best young swimmers are going to be doing double that distance, swimming a mile on both February 10 and 11 – all to raise funds for charity.

Rachael Rodd (9), José Cardoso (10), Kai Marks (11) and Aria Pitham (12) are the gutsy group that will be donning their speedos and caps for the long haul.
Rachael already holds the record for the youngest girl to complete the Midmar Mile, which she did when she was only 6 years old in 2019.

The local team will be swimming in the Midmar Mile Charity Challenge, which for the first time has extended an invitation to school teams.
“I am proud to say we are the first school team to enter this inaugural event. They will represent Crawford International North Coast,” said Dominique Donner-Rodd, head coach of the Seals Swimming Club North Coast of which all four youngsters are members.

As part of the entry, the swimmers have to nominate a charity for which they will raise funds, and the group has picked the Chad le Clos Foundation.
“Chad is a great friend of the Seals who train at Crawford and regularly visits us to present clinics and motivational talks. His foundation is doing amazing work, teaching swimming skills to disadvantaged communities as well as providing international opportunities to our elite swimmers,” said Donner-Rodd.
The minimum fundraising requirement per team is R10 000, which means each child is responsible for at least R2 500.
If you would like to donate to the cause, contact Donner-Rodd at 082 565 2137.
All donations qualify for a Section 18A certificate.
