Ashton’s cycling ‘Speedy Gonzales’ Miles Liebenberg takes KZN Champs

Apart from his dominance in the Harburg showdown, he is also in first position in his age category in the Road MTB series with podium finishes in all 5 races he has competed in so far.

Local cycling ace Miles Liebenberg is on top of his game.

The Grade 10 Ashton International College Ballito pupil powered his way to victory in the KZN road cycling championships in Harburg on January 23.

The youngster covered the gruelling 80km route in a fast 2hrs 33min 48sec, which not only earned him overall victory but also the U17 age category title as well.

Coached by Ty White of The DriveTrain Academy in Ballito, Miles’ time left him 15 minutes clear of his closest rival in the junior category.

Miles Liebenberg – king of the road.

He has shown great dedication to his cycling over the past year, putting in many training hours over holidays and weekends to keep himself in winning form.

Apart from his dominance in the Harburg showdown, he is also in first position in his age category in the Roag MTB series with podium finishes in all 5 races he has competed in so far.

His next series assignment will be on February 12 in Wartburg.

Miles’ big challenge will come at the end of May in the SA MTB Championships at the Karkloof Country Club.
