Grom surf series kicks off in Ballito tomorrow

The novices start the event at 7.30am, with the finals surfed on Sunday.

KwaZulu-Natal’s (KZN) best surfers under the age of 16 are going to be carving up the breaks at Willard Beach this weekend.

The first event in the North Coast boardriders junior series will draw surfers from KZN’s 3 surfing districts, iLembe, eThekwini and Ugu.

The heats start at 7.30am tomorrow and categories include novices, U12, U14 and U16.

The quarter-finals through to the finals will be surfed on Sunday, also from 7.30am onwards.

This is the first event of 3 on the junior series calendar and the winners of each division after all 3 events will receive R5 000.

The prize money has been donated by sponsors Ryan Balfour (Ballito electrician), Bisset & Hampshire Independent Advisors, Spar Group, Al Johns (Ballito Coastal Hire) and Ryan Rodgers (Wilcote Ballito).

The next 2 events will also be hosted by iLembe, with dates still to be announced.
