Ballito Dolphins on the ball

The club's junior teams began their campaign with a tournament at King's Park, while the seniors enjoyed a fundraising golf day at Maidstone Golf Club.

Between kicking off and teeing off, the Ballito Dolphins rugby squad had a busy weekend.

Both events ere huge successes despite almost being cancelled multiple times in the wake of the flood damage.

“After a couple of weeks of horrendous weather, it was a miracle that we could stage our golf day. However the rugby, golf and weather gods colluded and the day turned out perfect,” said chairman, Mark Svenningsen.

Despite difficult course conditions, golfers still managed to post some good scores and the Marx 4-ball outfit took overall honours with 97 points.

Gerrie Markram tees off on the 10th at Maidstone Country Club.

“The real winners were us, the Dolphins Rugby Club, as we made several new friends and in true rugby fashion everyone had a great time afterwards. We hope to see everyone at our first home game on May 21,” he said.

Age group teams from U6 to U11 all played in a tournament, delivering strong results on the same day.

The U6 and U7 team beat Westville 20-5, Crusaders 25-10 and Hillcrest 65-0.

The U8s beat Crusaders 15-10, Westville 10-5 and Quins 30-5.

The only loss of the day came in a closely fought match when the U9s went down 15-25 to a mixed team.

They beat Toti 20-0 and Westville 15-0 to ensure a winning record nonetheless.

Finally, the U11s won comfortably 22-0 against the South Coast Warriors.

The club thanked sponsors for making the event a success.
