Rising Salt Rock netball star Taygan goes international

The tour will cost R35 500 and mother Gina said they had already raised more than half of the amount, thanks mainly to the many residents who clubbed in.

Taygan Mazzoni is in seventh heaven after being selected for the SA invitational team to compete in the Emirates Dubai sevens netball tournament in November.

The highlight of her sport career to date, the 18-year-old Curro Salt Rock matric pupil said she will treasure this opportunity.

“I was meant to go last year but because of the Covid pandemic the tour was cancelled two days before our departure. This experience of a lifetime certainly makes up for that disappointment.”

Taygan and her mother Gina thanked the community for the support and encouragement received since the news broke.

“I really want to thank my parents and sponsors for making this possible.”

Taygan Mazzoni sharpens up her skills at Curro Salt Rock in preparation for the world sevens netball tournament in Dubai later this year.

Gina said she was super proud of her daughter because she knew how hard she had worked.

“She eats, breathes and lives netball, and for her to get an opportunity to be part of such an event is amazing. She is very passionate and has set her sights on playing for the Proteas one day.”

Beside the opportunity to go overseas, she has done well over the years, taking part in several major netball tournaments.

This year she played in the KZN U19 mixed action netball tournament and is captain of the Curro Salt Rock first team which finished third at the Curro Cup tournament in Cape Town. In addition, she also received a call-up for the KZN U18 outdoor team and the SA action netball squad.
