Action continues to unfold in The Ballito Pro

Louise Lepront and Tide-Lee Ireland claim wildcard entries.

Day 4 of The Ballito Pro Pres. by O’Neill SMTH Shapes competition saw surfers battle it out in the men’s and women’s Pro Junior divisions.

While cheering was plentiful for South African surfer Tide-Lee Ireland, the 19-year-old Durbanite was taken out by Brazilian Ryan Kainalo (16).

Kainalo scored 14.83, while Ireland posted 8.34.

In the women’s Pro Junior division, Hawaiian Bettylou Sakura Johnson brought her A-game, beating Brazilian Sophia Medina.

Winner of the JQS finals in the women’s division was Bettylou Johnson.

Johnson scored a solid 16.00, while Medina returned 8.93.

In the women’s final trials, 13-year-old Louise Lepront (Scottburgh) struck top form, edging out rivals Danielle Powis (Cape Town), Aimee du Preez (East London) and Adriel Wolmarans (East London).

Durban’s Tide-Lee Ireland took the honours in the men’s finals ahead of Durban’s Luke Thompson.

Day 5 of The Pro will see the Challenger Series unfold at Willard Beach tomorrow (Sunday).
