Summerhill House celebrates Mandela Day with 67 minutes of soccer

In perfect weather and with huge support from the Summerhill House children, a group of mixed teams from local businesses and churches did battle in 10-minute segments.

To celebrate Mandela Day, 12 teams participated in the inaugural Summerhill House 5-a-side soccer tournament.

Despite teams full of adults (including one from The North Coast Courier), it was the energy and talent of two all-children teams that made it to the final.

In a tense face-off after strong displays from both teams, Summerhill House won in front of their home crowd against Freedom House church.

With a flurry of goals, the score line finished 8-4 in favour of the young stars.

Funds raised from the day went towards funding Summerhill House which looks after orphaned and displaced children at it’s location in Etete.
