Titan Hybrid Heroes series reaches Ballito shores

Forty-eight cross-fit junkies descended on Ballito as the first local Titan Hybrid Heroes national series event was held at Grace Family Church.

Part middle distance run, part obstacle course, the Titan Hybrid Heroes events are designed to test the limits of an athlete’s endurance.

The national series reached Ballito for the first time recently, bringing 48 daring competitors to a course at Grace Family Church.

This year, there are 15 individual events across KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, Free State and the Western Cape, with three events in each province aside from the Western Cape, which has six.

“Each event sees athletes making their way through a unique series of functional strength stages. This could be anything from tyre flips to Atlas carries, with roughly 500m running between each exercise,” said co-founder Etienne van Zyl.

It makes for a punishing event where every single muscle in the body is tested to its limits and with no real chance for rest.

In Ballito, as with all of the events countrywide, there were six categories, with an Elite, 40+ and team category in each gender.

Ballito’s Aristo Nolan won the men’s elite and overall race in a time of 1:00.14.

Charles Bishop took the 40+ win in a time of 1:07.43, with the team of Rogan Swarts and Kieran Varkevisser grabbing the team gold in 1:11.19.

Celine Grace Cloete took the female elite gold in 1:18.42, with Chanel Lourens the best 40+ finisher in 1:37.58.

The best female team was Nerine van den Berg and Nadine van der Laan in 1:42.30.

Ballito’s Titan Hybrid Heroes event was the final of the 15, with only a grand final left.

“On October 2, the series finishes in Cape Town, where those who have built up ranking points will go head-to-head for overall victory.”

Although it serves as the final face-off, anyone is allowed to enter, even if it would be your first time.
