iLembe scoops gold and silver at SA chess champs

iLembe chess president, Xolani Myeni, and coach Siphamandla Nkosi commended team iLembe for the good performances.

Two iLembe U8 chess players showed their mettle at the South Africa Junior Chess Championships at the Wild Coast Sun last month.

Asher Ellender (Ashton College) and Logan Krimm (Umhlali Preparatory) claimed gold and silver medals respectively.

The experience afforded the two talented youngsters the opportunity of mixing with the country’s crème de la crème of chess.

A highlight for them was meeting the only chess grandmaster in South Africa, Kenny Solomon, who is now based in Italy.

The boys also went on to achieve podium finishes in the Wild Card event, from December 9-12,with Logan bagging silver and Asher taking bronze to both qualify for the South Africa Junior Closed Chess Championships in April.

The iLembe chess president, Xolani Myeni, and coach Siphamandla Nkosi commended team iLembe for the good performances.

They thanked all stakeholders and sponsors, without whose support participation would not have been possible.
