Get fit with the Dolphin Coast Striders
For those who are just starting, or who want to regain past fitness, the club also offers a Kickstart programme which will take them from 0 to 10km runs within 10 weeks.
Has your return to work put those New Year’s fitness resolutions on hold?
Perhaps the extra motivation you need will come from joining a club and there is no better in terms of local running than the Dolphin Coast Striders.
The club celebrated its 35th anniversary in 2022 and has grown to include 250 members of all different ages and fitness levels.
“Everyone is welcome, you don’t need to get fit before you join. We all started somewhere, just rock up and run,” said club chairman, Arthur Bertram.
From first time runners, to seasoned Comrades competitors, there is a squad that will suit your fitness level.
There is a daily 5am run from the Dolphin Coast Striders clubhouse on Dolphin Crescent, except on the sacred Monday rest day!

Every Thursday night (at 5.45pm in summer and 5.30pm in winter) the club also hosts a time trial, followed by a club braai on the last Thursday of every month.
“Folks are welcome to join a few morning runs and check out the scene before committing to membership. We have full time groups that cater from a casual 7 or 8km trundle to the racing snakes who are chasing Comrades silver medals,” said Bertram.
For those who are just starting, or who want to regain past fitness, the club also offers a Kickstart programme which will take them from 0 to 10km runs within 10 weeks.
This follows a professionally designed and monitored programme which culminates in the completion of a 10km road race.
Aside from the running, you also get strength and conditioning training, a complimentary shirt and a few other perks – the programme costs R1 250 and starts in February.
Normal club membership costs an annual R590 for a single member or R1 030 for a family (two adults and children).
The club is also a good place to join groups who are training for specific races, like the Comrades or the Dolphin Coast Marathon, which returns in April this year.
“We have many members of all different levels, all of whom form a crucial part of the larger team and camaraderie. Come and join the pod squad!”
