Hitting it big for a cause!

The annual Ballito Charity Cricket Day held at Umhlali Preparatory raises funds for charities and families in need.

Sunday was an all-round smash hit for charity at the second annual Ballito Charity Cricket Day (previously Ricky Braham Day) at Umhlali Preparatory School’s fields.

Eight teams competed for the title this year, and the winner was RE/MAX Dolphin Realtors, with KwaDukuza Super Giants finishing second.

Organised by three locals, Gerhard Breedt, Bertus Bosshoff and Werner Greyling, the aim is to raise funds for local charities or families going through hardship, while simultaneously hosting a fun community cricket event.

“This year, a family who recently lost a father, a great local Ballito gentleman and a friend to many, will receive R16 000 raised on the day. We wish to thank everyone who came out to support the event,” said Breedt.

He also thanked Umhlali Prep for always being accommodating and supportive, JJ Jacobs (Musical Bingo) for providing the music on the day at no charge, and every participating player and supporter.
