The North Coast will play host to an exciting chapter of the hugely popular Quattro ROAG Series this weekend.

Mountain bikers and trail runners will both have the chance to take part in a multi-stage event, the first-of-its-kind North Coast Challenger, at Holla Trails from Friday to Sunday.

Along with the Tour Durban MTB race, the North Coast Challenger is one of two new events in the series which has 10 stops across KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) over the course of the year.

So far, athletes have visited Wartburg and Hillcrest, with Holla Trails the third and only multi-stage race on the calendar.

With full-length and “lite” versions available, the event is open to both professional and newer athletes alike.

The main mountain biking category will be raced over three days, with riders facing 20km on Friday, 54km on Saturday and 43km of Friday, after which various section winners will be crowned.

For the lite, but still challenging version, riders will take on 18km, 30km and 25km on the three days respectively.

It is a two-day event for the trail runners, for whom 16km on Saturday and 15km on Sunday awaits.

The lite option is 10km on Saturday and 7km on Saturday.

Finishers in all four categories will earn points for the ongoing ROAG series, which aims to develop and encourage participation in sport across the province.

Entry costs range from R400 for a solo runner in the lite race to R3 200 for a pair of riders in the main mountain biking challenge.
