Ballito Lions golf day fundraiser delivers big payday for charity

The goal of the fundraising event was to help bring St Vincent de Paul closer to getting a new bakkie, which is used to transport food parcels to house-bound people living in Nkobongo.

The St Vincent de Paul charity organisation scored a bonus-in-one at last Thursday’s Ballito Lions golf fundraiser at Simbithi.

In a last-minute change of plan, the Lions scratched its original donation cheque of R65 000 and added another R10 000 after the 96 players entered into a robust auction bidding war at the 19th hole.

Ballito Lions project director, Paul Naidoo, said they were beyond grateful for the support received on the day, including main sponsor TotalEnergies’ contribution of R10 000. Raffle tickets raised an additional R30 000.

The goal of the fundraising event was to help bring St Vincent de Paul closer to getting a new bakkie, which is used to transport food parcels to house-bound people living in Nkobongo.

The charity also cares for orphans and disabled people.

The Lions extended special thanks to hospitality group Southern Sun, who sponsored a week-long stay at the Drakensberg Sun as prize, with the bid awarded at R15 000.
