The athletes were excited to receive a visit from local celebrities Menzi Nxumalo, Funky Finest and Sazi Magawana.

The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) recently got Ward 20 youngsters moving in honour of Youth Day.

To commemorate the struggle of 1976 and promote their goal of youth upliftment, the Ward 20 ANCYL hosted a sports day tournament in Thembeni.

Sixteen soccer teams faced off in open and U15 categories, with Abafana Bestayela winning the men’s and Thuthukani Royal FC claiming the junior victory.

Netball TSSA were the dominant force on the netball court, winning both the senior and U15 divisions.

Abafana Bestayela won the open soccer division.

“Although the youth of today faces different challenges to those in 1976, it remains our goal to promote sport, education and entertainment to keep them focused. We try to support them to explore their talents,” said Ward 20 ANCYL chairperson, Sonwabiso Piwani.
