Perfect 10 sees Mark McCarthy claim top spot in NC-Brag bodyboarding competition
McCarthy also earned the Wave of the Day prize.
Bodyboarders of all skill levels competed in the NC-Brag bodyboarding competition held at Salt Rock Main Beach on Saturday morning.
With strong support present, rookies, intermediates and the pros faced off against each other in their respective heats, drawing loud cheers from the crowd as contestants took to the water.
In the rookies’ category, Chad Storror wowed with an epic display of skill, scoring 8.6 and first place, followed by Scott McDonald (2nd), Ben Uys (3rd) and Vigo Lund (4th).
In the intermediates section, a trio of male riders were joined by energetic Suzie Husselmann, who despite placing fourth was stoked to still receive a prize. She was beaten by Dale van der Merwe (1st), Henry Linde (2nd) and Seth Poolton (3rd).
The pros pulled out all the stops in the main event of the day, with the club’s first ever perfect 10 in the pro division being claimed by Mark McCarthy, also wowing with two epic rolls.
Wave of the day prize also went to McCarthy.
With the arrival of a north-easterly wind at the time, conditions became more difficult.
McCarthy’s perfect 10 had practically secured his victory with a total score of 12.5, while Janek Ferrandi finished second with a score of 10.0. Third was Adam Waites and fourth Gary Kaatze.
The next bodyboarding championships competition will be held at Ballito on August 5.
