Rich medal haul for Ballito fighters
An additional achievement at the championships was Master Grachev grading to 8th Dan Senior Master.
Ballito Martial Arts Masters Academy’s Taekwon-do fighters brought home several gold, silver and bronze medals after competing in an international tournament in Northern Cyprus recently.
The team claimed 15 medals at the 2023 GTF European Taekwondo Championship held in Kyrenia.
Competitors participated in various categories, including sparring and patterns, as well as board-breaking.
Accompanied by Grandmaster Vladimir Grachev and Sabumnim Linda Smit, the South African team achieved a fourth place ranking in overall black belt attendance, earning them a trophy as well.
Medal winners in the patterns category were Marna Diedrechsen (gold), Amanda Eardley (silver), Tyler Kleynhans (silver), Nathan Diedrechsen (silver), Courtney Erasmus (silver) and Chane Eardley (bronze).
In the sparring category, both Eardleys secured gold medals, as did Raja Naicker, Ben Kleynhans, Tyler Kleynhans and Nathan Diedrechsen. Marna Diedrechsen and Courtney Erasmus earned silver medals.
Kleynhans claimed a second gold medal in board-breaking.
