iLembe cricket season underway
With the T20 competition finished, the team turns its focus to the premier 50 league which recommences in November.
District cricket in iLembe returns with another season of the Prestige Real Estate 30-over competition.
The competition will host teams from across the North Coast for weekly 30-over matches which will culminate in a grand final at the Gledhow Cricket Club.
Jemendra Haripershad of Prestige Real Estate is sponsoring the competition for the third year running and has put up R5 000 for a prize pool to be shared between the top three teams and best performers.
An exciting addition this year is an extra incentive of R5 000 for good performance in the iLembe men’s side that compete in the provincial club premier division.
Players can earn bonuses for claiming three wickets, 50 runs, a direct hit run out or 4 catches in any match this season.
The team ended the premier T20 league with a bang last weekend when they beat Uthungulu CC in a match at the Durban High School Oval.
iLembe won the toss and chose to bat, notching up 179 for 5 behind top-scorer Suveer Dewlal’s innings of 45 and three batsmen scoring 33.
The bowlers followed suit, scuttling Uthungulu for 116 in 18 overs, with captain Gareth Bishop claiming 4 for 13 and Saieshan Loganathan taking 3 for 28.

“The value of a representative team is that it’s open to all cricketers of iLembe and we have the best cricketers selected to represent our district,” said iLembe Cricket Union president, Desigan Pillay.
“We appeal to all schools, clubs and academies to send their most talented cricketers for training which takes place Tuesdays and Thursdays at Curro Salt Rock at 4.30pm and on Saturdays at Gledhow Cricket Cricket Grounds at 3pm.”
“As we head to our 80th year next year, let us all get behind our cricket district that has produced so many KwaZulu-Natal schools, country district and Dolphins players.”
