Trophies aplenty for young Ballito golfers
Kamaya Moodliar was crowned overall A Division winner for her first and second place individual finishes.
Ballito’s Kamaya Moodliar (17) claimed gold in the recent kids masters golf tournament at Royal Durban Golf Club.
She beat out 10 other golfers in the A Division with a net score of 70 and narrowly lost out in the gross competition after a two-hole playoff.
Pinetown’s Jamie Smith would claim the gross title after both golfers shot 74 in challenging overcast conditions to force the playoff.
The playoff took them down the par-5 10th, which Moodliar and Smith halved, before Smith claimed it on the second playoff hole, the par-4 1st.
It was a fantastic performance nonetheless and the net trophy was Moodliar’s second title in as many months after she claimed the Midlands Championship in October.
She was also crowned the overall A Division winner for her first and second place individual finishes.
Ballito’s Matthew Smith finished third overall in the A Division, while Carter Ross claimed second place in the boy’s 6-9 age group.
The tournament drew 60 golfers aged between six and 18 and produced some great scores from the next generation of golfing talent.
“It was heartening to see such talent among our children. The camaraderie and friendship between them made every official feel great,” said Central Durban Golf Club secretary, Gary Govindsamy.
“The sight of these kids playing, interacting and challenging each other makes us more determined to ensure that the next competition is better. It cannot be done without the support of parents, families and the community.”
Govindsamy thanked Royal Durban for hosting and SA Kids Golf chairman, Kreesan Munsamy for his support.
The B Division was won by Nirav Manickchund, while Christelle van Tonder claimed the C Division honours.
Other category winners were Muhammad Vather (boy’s 6-9), Shreya Naidoo (girl’s 6-9), Thaven Rasen (10-13) and Thapelo Nxumalo (14-18).
