Dolphin Coast squash team dominates Kloof A in spectacular weekend victory

A flawless performance propelled the team to third place in the Durban Summer Superleague team squash tournament.

The Dolphin Coast squash team put on a flawless performance to beat Kloof A at the weekend.

The four-man team bounced back after losing their first fixture against Mt Edgecombe, claiming four victories from four to complete a bonus point win.

Four of the Dolphin Coast’s best players suit up every weekend to compete in the Durban Summer Superleague Team Squash Tournament, which draws some of the top players and teams in the province.

Umar Hoosen (No 1 seed), Avesh Nurbadh (2), Mark Bishop (3) and Frank Bradford (4) made up the team who took on Kloof A at Crusaders on Saturday.

Bradford kicked things off in the 4th seed game against former Dolphin Coast player, Chris Sibbald.

Former allegiances turned competitive as Bradford used all of his experience and guile to win 3-1.

Bishop – who was crowned Salt Rock Country Club champion in 2023 – barely raised a sweat against Justin Jackson in the 3rd seed match on his way to a straight sets victory.

It was a much tighter game as Nurbadh took on Trevor Steyn for the 2nd seed honours.

The lead ebbed and flowed over the five set marathon, but Nurbadh was able to outlast Steyn to win 3-2.

Hoosen’s top seed game proved similarly competitive against Richard Valentine, who is ranked as one of the top 10 players in KwaZulu-Natal.

Valentine sped to a 2-0 lead and forced Hoosen to dig deep into his reserves to start a comeback.

Some fantastic squash when it mattered earned Hoosen three sets in a row and a 3-2 win.

With two bonus points, the match earned the Dolphin Coast 14 points and catapulted them to third position on the league table with 16 points overall.

The league is made up of Mt Edgecombe (28 points), Crusaders (26), Amanzimtoti (15), Gillitts (14), Kloof A (12), Westville (10) and Kloof B (9).
