Ballito rally driver Benjamin Habig reigns supreme at SA rally champs

Habig and navigator Barry White dominated in their first time out with their new rally car.

North Coast rally driver Benjamin Habig and navigator Barry White stormed to a convincing victory at the fourth round of the SA Rally Championship in Secunda at the weekend.

They led from the minute the flag dropped and the duo claimed a comprehensive victory. Winning five of the six stages, they finished 1min 37sec ahead of their closest rivals.

“Standing on top of the podium on the debut weekend of our new NRC1 VW Polo was amazing,” said Habig.

White said the car gave them a solid start in the race for national championship glory.

Bragging rights – Barry White and Benjamin Habig with the tropies they earned after winning the fourth round of the SA Rally Championships at the weekend.

It was their first time out with their new rally car.

“We made a few set-up changes and kept the car well within limits,” said White.

Habig attributed their success to his father Jan, seven-time winner of the SA Rally Drivers Championship.

“A huge word of appreciation to my dad and his team of dedicated technicians who put in a year’s work to build this state-of-the-art machine. Our win is testimony of the quality and reliability of the car,” said Habig.
