Dolphin Coast Striders’ dash into top 20 at Spar Women’s Challenge

The Spar Women's Challenge sees a strong North Coast participation.

The popular Spar Women’s Challenge drew strong North Coast support at the weekend.

More than 30 runners and walkers associated with North Coast clubs took on the 5 and 10km routes in Durban on Sunday.

Thandolwethu Athletics Club from Ndwedwe was best represented, but the Dolphin Coast Striders, Tongaat Panthers, Maphumulo Athletics Club and Mandeni Harriers all members across the line.

Exciting youngster Amahle Dlephu (Thandolwethu AC) was the best local 10km finisher, blitzing through the course in 42.53.

That was enough for 15th overall in the Junior U18 category.

Marize Bekink (Dolphin Coast Striders) was the fastest local 5km runner and her time of 33.50 was good for 9th overall in the 40-49 age category.

Fransie du Toit (Dolphin Coast Striders) was the last top 20 finisher, earning 13th place in her 50-59 division with a time of 49.52 in the 10km race.

At the top of the overall leaderboard, Ethiopian Tadu Nare claimed the 10km honours in 31.13 and Londiwe Zincume the 5km in 19.30.
