Ballito Surf School held its annual high-performance competition at Willard Beach on Saturday on a perfect summer’s day.
“The waves were great,” said Ballito Surf School founder Janek Ferrandi. “The waves were pumping, and the beach was packed.”
The young surfers brought their A-game, battling it out for the top spot in 2024. There was no wind and four-foot waves on the set, which made for good surfing conditions for a competition.
The surfers had to battle through a qualifying round to make the semi-finals. The top two riders from each semi-final progressed to the four-contestant final.
“There were some good results, and a lot of good scores throughout the day’s competition,” said Ferrandi.
Lola Wang won the girls’ division and Cello Zedde took first place in the boys’ division. Wang beat Keira Fletcher (2nd), Catherine Jacob (3rd), and Cyan Chalupsky (4th) in the girls’ final, while Zedde edged out Ry Colepeper (2nd), Rylie Balfour (3rd), and Seth Aszalos (4th) in the boys’ final.
