Surfing community unites for ripping retro surf comp at Tiffany’s Reef
Although rain tried to ruin the party, it could not dampen the spirit on the day.
Not even the rain could dampen the stoke at the North Coast Boardriders Retro Fun Day at Tiffany’s Reef on Saturday.
The event drew 14 teams and a bunch of groms who all got in on the retro action on vintage boards.
In the main event, teams of three faced off in a modified heat format, while the U12 groms had their own competition. The Ballistic Bisset team of twin brothers Ryan and Lee and Ryan’s wife Leigh Bisset took the overall honours after carving out some great surfing in tricky conditions.
“It was awesome to win the retro event and to do it with my wife and twin brother made victory all the sweeter for us as a family,” said Ryan.

“We also enjoyed riding our 70s and 80s twin fin surfboards. It’s amazing how surfing brings family, friends and communities together to enjoy this precious gift of the ocean.”
The groms showed plenty of promise on the day too, with Lila Prinsloo winning the girl’s event and Logan Venter claiming the boy’s. Logan was the only grom to take on the outside waves and was rewarded with an excellent 8-point ride.
Regardless of results however, the North Coast surfing community ensured it did what it does best, bridging the generational gap through the love of the sport.
