Railways Cricket Club claim bonus point victory over Silver Saints

Brian Vickery and Malik Awan were the chief destroyers for the Tongaat team, claiming three wickets apiece.

Tongaat’s Railways Cricket Club (RCC) 1st XI earned a dominant bonus point win over Chatsworth’s Silver Saints last Sunday.

Facing off at the Crawford International North Coast grounds in a 50-over contest, the men from Tongaat won the toss and put the visitors in to bat.

It proved an excellent decision, as RCC’s bowlers quickly got to work, limiting Saints to 86-all-out in 23.1 overs.

Captain Brian Vickery led the charge with 3/23 and was backed up by Malik Awan (3/34) and Nirav Maharaj (1/10).

RCC’s star bowlers featured in the successful chase too, with Vickery and Maharaj combining for a 70-run partnership to get the home team over the line in 17.2 overs.

RCC’s 2nd XI were also in action on Sunday claiming the Promotion Reserve Division 2 20-over final against Topham Cricket Club at the Chatsworth Oval.

The Tongaat team topped the log after the round robin and toppled Newlands in the semi-finals two weeks ago.

That momentum lasted into the final, where RCC batted first.

Mohammad Wasim and Manazer Azim were excellent at the top of the order, scoring 80 and 56 respectively to help their team to 176/2.

Topham never got going in their response and were bowled out for 99.

Sajjid Llyas claimed three scalps, while Wasid and Nadeem took two apiece.
