Wildlife Rescue Dolphin Coast celebrates R110k raised through SMG BMW Ballito golf day

The money will go towards caring for orphaned, abandoned and injured animals along the North Coast.

United by a shared hobby of spending time searching in the bushes, local golfers and wildlife rescuers teed off for a good cause last week.

The SMG BMW Ballito golf day at Simbithi Country Club last Wednesday drew 80 golfers who together raised an impressive R110 000 for Wildlife Rescue Dolphin Coast. No one was able to claim one of the enticing hole-in-one prizes on offer, but the vibes remained good throughout the afternoon.

MC Thando-Rose Dladla and auctioneer Rob Thunder ensured the excitement continued well into the evening with an auction that raised R54 000, nearly half of the overall total.

“The support from the community was huge and Rob was amazing!” said Wildlife Rescue founder Lindy Elmes.

“I’m very grateful for what everybody has done. I want to thank all who supported and sponsored the day, especially Gary Wentzel for kickstarting the event.”

Founded by Lindy in September 2024, Wildlife Rescue Dolphin Coast is a non-profit, volunteer-run organisation dedicated to caring for orphaned, abandoned and injured animals along the North Coast.

The organisation often responds to incidents where animals need critical care, including cases of shootings.

“We go out, stabilise the animals, take them to the vet, cover the bills and rehabilitation costs and, if they survive, we release them back into the wild where possible,” said Lindy.
