Ballito’s Coach Mxo sets his sights on Hyrox World Championships
The 32-year-old has built a career helping others achieve their fitness goals through his company, Mxofit2018.
As a young boy growing up in the KwaShikishela area of Mtubatuba, Mxolisi “Coach Mxo” Ndwadwe would sit in front of the television watching soccer matches.
But unlike many of his friends who dreamed of scoring winning goals, Mxo’s attention was elsewhere.
He was fascinated by the medical staff who sprinted onto the field whenever a player was injured.
That childhood curiosity would spark a lifelong passion for sport and fitness.
Today, the 32-year-old Ballito resident, husband and father of two, has built a career helping others achieve their fitness goals through his company, Mxofit2018.
He recently added another achievement to his growing list after completing a Hyrox fitness competition, one of the world’s fastest-growing endurance events.
After completing matric, Mxo enrolled at the University of Zululand to study Sport Science, hoping to become a sports physician. Although his career path took a different direction, it remained firmly rooted in the world of sport.
In 2016, he joined Virgin Active Ballito as a fitness instructor before progressing to become a personal trainer.
Three years later, he launched his popular Saturday morning boot camps at Townsend Park.
“The boot camps started with people who wanted to get fit but did not enjoy training indoors. From there, together with some of my regular clients, we decided to test our fitness at Hyrox competitions,” said Mxo.
The challenge proved to be a natural fit. Combining running with demanding functional fitness stations, Hyrox pushes competitors to their physical and mental limits.
For Mxo, the event was about more than crossing the finish line.
“As a coach, I always encourage my clients to believe in themselves and embrace challenges. Participating in Hyrox allowed me to lead by example and show that with consistency and hard work, anything is possible,” he said.
His ultimate goal is now to compete at the Hyrox World Championships in Sweden.
Away from fitness, Mxo is a devoted family man who enjoys spending time with his wife and children.
As a man of strong faith, he also spends much of his time on Sundays at the Independent Baptist Church in Ntshawini.
