Ballito rhythmic gymnasts strike gold at national championships
Five of ten gymnasts that travelled to the tournament returned with golds.
Ten young Ballito gymnasts performed with poise and grace to earn outstanding results at the recent national rhythmic gymnastics championships in Cape Town.
Hannah Uys, Elke Bochmann, Sarah Laing, Kaitlyn Marx and Riley Gouws all claimed gold medals, while Zenzele Khumalo and Lelei Adam were selected to represent South Africa. Courtney Paladin, Mika Lotter and Harper Lloyd also impressed at the event in Bellville from September 23-29.
Uys, Bochmann, Laing and Marx won their gold medals as part of a group routine, as did Gouws, who competed with an open dance group made up of seven gymnasts from across the province. Gouws also finished second in her individual ball routine and placed third overall in the over-15 Level 9 section.

The gymnasts all train with Ocean Rhythmic Gymnastics Club, which has five branches across KwaZulu-Natal, including one at Salt Rock Country Club. The club offers recreational and competitive classes for children aged four and older.
Coach and free dance choreographer Kayleigh Koekemoer said she was proud of the gymnasts’ performances.
“Our girls worked very hard this year on their group routine and I am extremely proud of them. I can’t wait to see what our gymnasts can achieve in 2027,” she said.
