Restaurant Review: Xing Ye

David Hoehler tries out some Chinese food.

It is always nice to try something different.

I popped in to Xing Ye at The Well in Ballito for a meal with a few friends. It is a simple little restaurant but nicely put together. The menu has quite a bit to choose from, but of course it is mostly Asian foods.

The one thing I found was that they are very reasonably priced. For a table of four where each of us had a main course and we shared a 21 piece sushi platter, the bill only came down to R383. To me, that is real value for money.

The sushi was a bit average – not bad by any means – just not out of this world.

For mains I had sweet and sour pork which was superb. The pork was super crispy and the sauce had that perfect blend of sweet and sour. They offer a choice of rice or noodles to go with your meal.

One of the other dishes I got to sample was the chilli prawns. It was full of flavour, including quite a bit of heat! I don’t think I could have finished a whole plate, however my friend thoroughly enjoyed his meal as he loves hot food.

I also sampled the chicken fried rice which was very tasty and a very good size portion for R40.

The food was good, it might not be very fancy, but we all enjoyed our meals and it is nice to be able to go out and have a meal without breaking the bank.

Xing Ye is value for money and well worth a visit.
