Restaurant Review: Upper Deck
Our resident food expert gives his take on the Upper Deck restaurant.
Before I get into this week’s food review I would like to say a few words about the Eat Local wine festival I attended a few weeks ago.
I must compliment Hugo and the Mags Brand for putting together an outstanding evening. It was without a doubt one of the best wine events I’ve been to!
It’s not often that you get to try wines from the likes of Meerlust and Rupert and Rothschild.
The buffet that Eat Local provided was absolutely outstanding. They are going to be having it again next year and I can really recommend you try to book a table, it is worth every penny! Now back to this week’s review.
This was my first time going to Upper Deck so I wasn’t too sure what to expect. What I found was a very nice clean venue with a panoramic view of our wonderful coastline.
The menu has a lot to offer with everything you could want.
I enjoyed one of the nicest eisbein I’ve had in a long time. It was extremely crispy and yet still juicy it was served with enjoyable honey mustard sauce and sauerkraut with your choice of side order. It is definitely worth a try.
We also had the mild Peri Peri half chicken which was also just as good. The chicken was tender and the sauce had just enough heat.
For dessert we had the koeksusters and ice cream. To be honest they weren’t the best koeksusters I’ve had. They just lacked a bit of crunch but were still enjoyable.
Looking at the rest of the menu they have a selection of planks “platters” that I intend to go back and try, as they seem like good value for money. The service was good with the waiter being every helpful and attentive. I really enjoyed our meal there.
