‘Finding Home’ is 100% KwaDukuza
A locally produced film tackles life in the townships.
The youth of KwaDukuza can look forward to a new movie called ‘Finding Home’, which tackles life in the townships through the eyes of a boy.
The locally produced and filmed movie features KwaDukuza township residents and scenes that take you from the winding township paths to the streets of KwaDukuza.
Movie director and producer, Vusi Madondo put heads together with local hip hop artist, Rasheed “Renegade” Mhlongo to create the film.
“I wanted to share parts of my life through this movie to help the youth and motivate them not to give up, no matter what happens,” said Mhlongo.
“I hope it will teach the youth that becoming a musician requires more than just talent. You need passion, dedication and money too,” he said.
The boy portraying Mhlongo is called Sboniso, but after he is separated from his mom and sister during a hijacking incident, he is adopted by a street gang and becomes known as Renegade. Renegade spends 18 years of his life trying to achieve his goal of becoming a musician and finding his parents, while at the same time not turning his back on the gang.
“We are trying to highlight the importance of fighting for what you believe in, despite the circumstances you might find yourself in,” said Madondo.
According to Madondo the movie has been accepted by the Mzansi magic channel, but he cannot yet announce when the movie will be televised.
They had to raise R20 000 to make the movie. To do this they took out many loans, and even resorted to using loan sharks at times, in order to make this dream a reality.
