Restaurant Review: Annapurna Bistro
Foodie David Hoehler pays Annapurna Bistro a visit for lunch.
I enjoyed a lunch at Annapurna Bistro this past week. They are based at the Karibu Nursery in Umhali.
Since they have been open they have been the target of quite a few faceless comments on social media.
Some however, have come out to say that they were wrong and now praise the place. I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch there.
The venue is stunning, you almost feel like you are on holiday and the menu is simple.
For starters we had a Caprese salad, and I always love the simplicity of this salad.
I have seen some really mess it up, but this was delicious.
The rocket was fresh, the mozzarella was of high quality and the tomatoes firm and juicy.
For main course I had the prawn spaghetti, and I really enjoyed it, even if the chef was a bit heavy handed with the olive oil.
Besides that, it had a fair balance of prawn to pasta and just the right amount of chili.
My wife had the burger, but she didn’t really feel like having the bread that would come with it, however she ordered it anyway.
Lo and behold when the burger arrived it didn’t come with a bun. It turned out the burger had a (B) next to it which meant Banting!
We completely overlooked it when ordering so it turned out to be a winner.
The burger checked all the boxes and my wife was very satisfied.
Annapurna Bistro pride themselves on their baked goods and I can understand why. The selection is impressive to say the least!
I tasted three desserts, the Oreo chocolate cup, lemon meringue pie and a Banting-friendly almond flour and orange cake.
They were some of the tastiest desserts I have had in a long time.
I’m not going to disregard some of the complaints I’ve heard, but I do think they have the potential to be a great restaurant.
